The pressure is regulated by the dome pressure regulator not by means of an adjustable pressure-actuated spring, but by means of a control gas that acts on a diaphragm in the dome. Depending on the pressure of the control gas that is set by means of a control pressure regulator, the diaphragm opens or closes the valve, thus changing the outlet pressure of the gas to be regulated. The process gas to be regulated can also be used as control gas and is then returned to the process circuit via a return valve. The pressure can also be regulated during operation without having to interrupt the process.
Dome pressure regulators are particularly suitable for line and machine installation for the process gas supply. The constant working pressure, irrespective of fluctuating tapping volumes and supply pressures, ensures a constant gas concentration and hence the quality of the downline processes. The use of dome pressure regulators is also to be recommended when large flow rates are supplied with small pressure differences.
The dome pressure regulator is operated in combination with a control pressure regulator (or proportional valve) via which the desired working pressure (downline pressure) is set. Either the gas to be regulated (process medium) or an external gas can be used as control gas for the control pressure regulator.
